Rough rule: a chip smaller than a quarter, or a crack under six inches, can usually be filled with resin. Anything bigger, anything sitting in the driver's line of sight, or anything that has reached the edge of the glass is a replacement, because the edge is where the windshield carries its load. We'd rather tell you it's the cheap job when it's the cheap job.

Glass expands when it's hot and contracts when it cools.
